President Tinubu declares State of Emergency in Rivers State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State, southern Nigeria, for an initial period of six months.
The president made the declaration in a live broadcast aired Tuesday evening.
The Governor, Deputy Governor and all elected members of the House of Assembly are hereby suspended for 6 months.
This comes amid recent political impasse between Tinubu’s ally and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike and his estranged political god-son, Governor Similaye Fubara, in the State.
The Wike-backed House of Assembly had on Monday issued an impeachment notice to the Governor on grounds bordering on gross misconduct.
Second explosion rocks Rivers State on Tuesday
A devastating explosion has rocked an oil facility in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State, Nigeria.
The blast occurred at a Manifold Connecting federal line in Okwawriwa area on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to eyewitnesses, an inferno is currently raging at the facility, which is located a considerable distance from their homes.
The facility is responsible for transporting petroleum products from Seplat, Agip, and Shell, moving oil from ONELGA and parts of Imo State to Brass in Bayelsa State.
This latest explosion comes on the heels of a similar incident at the Trans-Niger Pipeline, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), which transports oil to Bonny Terminal.
The causes of the blasts are yet to be determined, but the police are working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that two persons have been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the Trans-Niger Pipeline explosion.
The police are urging residents to remain calm and cooperative as they investigate the incidents.
The frequency of these explosions has raised concerns about the safety and security of oil facilities in the region.
The Nigerian government and oil companies operating in the area must take immediate action to address these concerns and prevent future incidents.
