Sowore is a fake activist -David Hundeyin

Prominent investigative journalist David Hundeyin has labelled Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the general elections of 2023, as a fake activist supported by US intelligence agencies.
Hundeyin says his claim of being a revolutionary activist is merely a front.
In a post on his verified X handle on Monday night, Hundeyin asserted that Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow and publisher of the online news platform Sahara Reporters, is an undercover agent and front for the agencies whose main objective is to use deceit to destabilize African nations.
He explicitly listed the Ford Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, and Omidyar Network, all of which are US agencies, as some of the organizations purportedly supporting Sowore’s program.
He further mentioned that President Bola Tinubu is employed by the same agencies.
“I’ve already said everything I have to say about him. He works for the same people Tinubu works for,” Hundeyin wrote.
“Literally all you have to do to confirm this for yourself is pull up the Wikipedia page of Sahara Reporters and see who funds it (Omidyar Network, Ford Foundation, MacArthur Foundation) – all U.S. Intelligence front organisations.
“Just because he wears a beret and shouts #RevolutionNow, some people think that in and of itself must put him against the status quo.
“Meanwhile the oldest trick in the western foreign intelligence book is to infiltrate and subvert revolutionary spaces using their funded Trojan horses.
“They’ve literally gone as far as embedding their undercover agents into organisations they want to infiltrate and getting them to even marry members of these organisations and raise kids with them.
“Compared to that level of subversive effort, how hard is it to fund one yellow beret-wearing numpty in West Africa to jump around and destroy the actual revolutionary movement in Nigeria by centring himself as the “revolution,” fixing dates and venues for protests (signposting them for the puppet government), and gathering intelligence for them about people who can actually change anything?
“Yele Sowore is the biggest *** plant in West Africa, and I don’t understand how this could be more obvious. The dude is literally funded by U.S. Foreign Intelligence. It’s in your face!”
Examining the Sahara Reporters Wikipedia page further verified that the platform had received grants totaling millions of dollars from the organizations Hundeyin had cited.
Regarding the funding technique, Wikipedia stated:
“Sahara Reporters was traditionally supported by grants donated by international foundations and non-governmental organizations.
“It has received support from the Ford Foundation, which donated $175,000 to the organization in the past, and from the Global Information Network. Sahara Reporters has also received a $450,000 grant from the Omidyar Foundation.
“Sahara Reporters Media Foundation was awarded $1,300,000 between 2016 and 2019 by MacArthur Foundation.”
Identifying the NGO’s funders as various American intelligence fronts, including the Ford Foundation and ClimateWorks, Hundeyin alleged that these organizations are orchestrating a campaign to resist Nigeria’s industrial self-sufficiency. “For whatever reason, it is now quietly mobilizing a resistance campaign against what it describes as ‘Nigeria’s first refinery,’” Hundeyin remarked. This, he suggests, points to a broader strategy to keep Africa dependent on international oil markets, undermining its ability to manage and profit from its own natural resources.
Hundeyin criticized the narrative that exporting raw materials and importing refined goods was environmentally harmless. Meanwhile, Europe’s blending of West African fuel with hazardous levels of toxins seemed to escape similar scrutiny. “Nigeria having a refinery to end import dependency is where Dialogue Earth and its funders draw the line,” he stated, underscoring the selective environmental focus of the NGO.
“These people believe that Africans should not exist or have nice things in this world,” Hundeyin declared with palpable exasperation. His commentary highlights the enduring struggle for self-determination and the latent colonial dynamics that persist in modern global economic relationships.
“The message needs to be passed,” he stressed, advocating against succumbing to financial incentives that perpetuate systemic poverty. Hundeyin’s decision to make this information public serves as a call to action for other African journalists and influencers to remain vigilant against being used as tools by foreign interests.
Hundeyin’s skepticism toward climate-oriented agendas further fueled his critique. “I am not a believer in the religious faith called Climate Change/Saving The Environment,” he confessed, dismissively comparing it to the environmental destruction historically perpetrated by Western nations. This stance challenges prevailing narratives and invites debate on the intersection of environmental advocacy and economic independence.
Asserting African sovereignty over its resources, Hundeyin insisted, “It is 100% OUR prerogative to determine what to do with our hydrocarbons,” rejecting external dictates cloaked in environmental concern. His position reinforces the importance of local agency in determining the future of Africa’s energy sector and the broader implications for economic autonomy.
Notably, Hundeyin distanced himself from any personal affiliation with Aliko Dangote while acknowledging the broader economic implications. “I’m also smart enough to know when rich white men… are trying to use me as a marionette,” he said, condemning attempts to exploit African influencers as pawns in larger economic games. Hundeyin’s statement reflects a nuanced understanding of bi-national economic tensions and the need for principled stances in journalism.

In a direct challenge, Hundeyin urged those feeling threatened by Nigeria’s oil independence to confront the issue directly. “You should come out and fight Aliko Dangote by yourself,” he challenged, maintaining his resolve against being manipulated. His call underscores an appeal for transparency and fortitude against covert economic warfare tactics.
