Kidnappers now using military gadgets, claim links to JTF

Two suspected kidnappers were recently arrested in Niger State while attempting to abduct a woman right inside her home, in what authorities described as a foiled, well-planned operation.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the arrest was made by officers attached to the Tafa Divisional Headquarters, following a distress call from residents of Kata, near New-Bwari.

The suspects, identified as Japhta James, 28, and Usman Ibrahim, 30, were apprehended before they could flee the crime scene.

Reports indicate that they broke into a residence with the intent to kidnap a woman who is the sister of a local man.

Upon their arrest, police recovered a shocking collection of tools believed to have been used in the attempted abduction.

Items recovered include a locally fabricated pistol, two sharp knives, two electric tasers, a walkie-talkie, two cartridges, four mobile phones, one ATM card, pepper spray, and several charms believed to be for spiritual protection or intimidation.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed their plan was to abduct the woman and later demand ransom from her family.

They also admitted that the equipment was bought from another criminal operating under the disguise of a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), raising questions about infiltration of community vigilante networks by criminals.

The Police Command noted that the suspects are currently being held by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

This incident has raised renewed concerns about the growing sophistication of kidnapping gangs in Nigeria.

The use of tactical equipment such as tasers and walkie-talkies indicates a level of coordination and boldness that could pose a wider security threat if not addressed.

Authorities are urging citizens to report suspicious activity immediately and remain cautious, as security forces intensify efforts to dismantle these criminal networks before they succeed again.
