Enugu Twin Sisters Vow to Marry Same Man Together

Twin sisters from Enugu State in eastern Nigeria have stirred massive reactions on social media after publicly declaring their desire to marry the same man.

The young women, known as Sonia and Tonia, made headlines over the weekend following a viral video in which they openly expressed their wish to share the same husband.

According to the twins, their decision stems from a deep emotional bond and an inseparable connection that they claim cannot be compromised by conventional marital expectations.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the video, which was first posted on TikTok and later reshared across Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), attracted thousands of comments, shares, and debates from Nigerians at home and abroad.

The sisters introduced themselves as being from Enugu State, a prominent southeastern Nigerian state known for its cultural heritage, hospitality, and strong traditional family values.

In the trending video, the twins declared: “We are from Eastern Nigeria, Enugu precisely. We want to marry one man because we can’t live without each other.”

Their statement challenges both social norms and legal frameworks in Nigeria, where monogamy is widely practiced under civil and Christian marriage laws, though polygamy remains permitted under Islamic and customary laws.

Public reactions have been mixed.

While some Nigerians praised the twins for their honesty and bond, others condemned the idea, questioning its morality and legality.

Some commenters argued that love should not be limited by societal constructs, especially when consent and mutual understanding exist among the involved parties.

Others, however, warned that such a union could spark confusion, particularly in raising children, inheritance rights, and religious implications.

As of Monday morning, the video had racked up over 1 million views on TikTok and was trending under hashtags like #TwinMarriage and #OneManTwoWives.

The identity of the man they intend to marry has not yet been made public, but several online users have jokingly volunteered to be the “lucky husband,” adding humour to the otherwise controversial topic.

In recent years, unusual marriage arrangements have occasionally surfaced in Nigeria, but few have drawn as much attention as this case.

Cultural experts suggest that while twins often share deep emotional bonds, choosing to enter into a marriage together with one spouse raises ethical and practical questions.

Nevertheless, Sonia and Tonia remain undeterred.

Their confident assertion that they cannot be separated,  even by marriage, continues to spark both curiosity and criticism online.
