Abducted Nigerian Traditional Ruler still in kidnappers’ den

The Paramount Ruler of Mbo, His Royal Majesty Ogwong Okon Abang remains in the custody of kidnappers after being abducted by gunmen on Saturday, May 19, at his palace in Ebughu, Mbo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen, who were dressed in military uniforms, stormed the palace at approximately 9 p.m. and whisked away the monarch.

The abductors have not yet contacted the family for a possible ransom, fueling concerns about the ruler’s safety.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command confirmed the abduction and swiftly launched an investigation into the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ayilara Waheed Adedamola, and other Service Commanders, including the Commissioner for Internal Security, have moved to Mbo local council to assess the situation.

“The police are working tirelessly to ensure the safe release of the Paramount Ruler,” ASP John said. “We are exploring all possible leads and collaborating with local authorities to apprehend the culprits.”

Sources close to the investigation revealed that the police have made significant progress in tracing the abductors, but the Paramount Ruler remains in custody.

The police are working to ensure his safe release and are urging the public to provide any information that may aid in the investigation.

The abduction of the Paramount Ruler has sparked concern among the people of Mbo, who are calling for his immediate release.

The incident is part of a rise in insecurity in the state, with other recent kidnappings including the wife of a prominent politician and a four-month-old baby.

The Akwa Ibom State Government has condemned the abduction and pledged to work with the police to ensure the safe release of the Paramount Ruler.
