The African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in Abia State, Ogala, joined demonstrators across Nigeria on June 12 to protest rising insecurity in the country.
During the protest, Ogala drew attention to the May 15 abduction of 39 schoolchildren aged between two and sixteen, alongside seven teachers, from three schools in Oyo State. Reports indicate that one teacher was killed during the attack, while another was allegedly beheaded in captivity. Several of the victims are still being held as of early June.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage and contributed to an indefinite strike by teachers in affected areas, as concerns over safety in schools continue to grow.
Carrying placards demanding stronger security measures, Ogala called for an end to attacks on farmlands and educational institutions. One of the key messages highlighted during the protest was a renewed demand to “Bring Back Our Children,” reflecting the urgency felt by demonstrators.
The June 12 demonstrations, which reportedly spread across at least 20 states, focused on escalating insecurity, kidnappings, and violence affecting communities nationwide.
While the protest has been praised in some quarters for drawing attention to the crisis, it has also faced criticism online, with some users questioning turnout levels and the effectiveness of such demonstrations.
Despite differing opinions, the protests continue to highlight growing public frustration over insecurity and calls for decisive government action.
