The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has labeled the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a political entity on the verge of extinction, attributing this to the party’s chronic leadership crisis.

Information made available to Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports that the APC called on Nigerians to ensure that the PDP never returns to power, citing the alleged damage the party caused during its 16 years in power.

In an interview with Sunday PUNCH, APC’s National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, expressed the party’s discontent with the PDP’s leadership and the ongoing turmoil within the opposition.

He emphasized that the consequences of the PDP’s long rule continue to haunt the country.

According to Ibrahim, Nigeria is still grappling with the aftermath of the PDP’s alleged mismanagement, which led to widespread suffering and stagnation.

Ibrahim remarked that the PDP’s leadership crisis was emblematic of the party’s incompetence.

He claimed that Nigerians should not take the opposition seriously, as the party appeared to be in disarray.

He described the current situation as entertaining for the APC, indicating that the challenges faced by the PDP were only the beginning.

He went further to state that the PDP had failed to manage itself effectively, let alone the nation.

He suggested that the APC had been divinely chosen to lead the country, emphasizing that it was God’s intervention that pushed the PDP out of power.

Highlighting the internal strife within the PDP, Ibrahim criticized the party’s inability to function cohesively.

He claimed that the ongoing issues within the opposition party were a reflection of their incapacity to govern.

Referring to the PDP’s apparent disintegration, he questioned how the party could be taken seriously when it was struggling with basic organizational challenges.

He also urged the PDP to learn from the APC, pointing out that the APC had set up a Progressive Institute under the leadership of APC’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to teach political skills, including how to manage political affairs without resorting to bitterness.

When questioned about allegations suggesting that the APC might have played a role in the crisis within the PDP and other opposition parties, Ibrahim firmly denied any involvement.

He stated that the APC had no responsibility for the upheaval at the PDP headquarters, known as Wadata Plaza, which has been embroiled in conflict.

He emphasized that the APC had no connection to the ongoing disputes, highlighting that the crisis within the PDP was an internal matter.

Ibrahim pointed out that no one involved in the protests within the PDP was affiliated with the APC, underscoring that the issues were purely internal to the PDP.

Meanwhile, the absence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at a critical meeting of the PDP North East zonal caucus has raised eyebrows.

The meeting, which took place in Bauchi, was focused on the party’s reconciliation efforts and strategies for the upcoming 2027 elections.

The gathering saw the attendance of the three PDP governors from the North East region, namely Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Despite the significance of the meeting, Atiku Abubakar, a key figure within the PDP, was notably absent.

The absence of the former Vice President has sparked discussions about the future direction of the party, particularly in the face of its ongoing leadership struggles.

In addition to the three governors, the meeting was attended by members of the PDP Reconciliation Committee, led by former National Secretary Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

Other key political figures present at the meeting included senators, House of Representatives members, and state assembly members from the zone.

This meeting, while focused on reconciliation, underscored the deepening divides within the PDP as it approaches the 2027 elections.

In conclusion, the APC has taken a firm stance on the PDP’s leadership crisis, asserting that the opposition party is on the brink of collapse.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the APC is using the internal disarray within the PDP as a platform to solidify its political dominance, urging Nigerians to reject the opposition’s return to power.
