Army sets up court martial to try two Major Generals

The Nigerian Army has set up court martial to try two top military officers over what it termed ‘violation of service discipline.’

The two accused are Major General Ibrahim Sani and Major -General Patrick Falola.

Major General Sani and Major -General Falola are Chief of Army Transformation and Innovation Centre, and Commander 68 Hospital Yaba respectively.

The court martial will be presided over by the President of the Court, Air Vice Marshal Gbum.

The President of Court and other members of the panel were sworn in by the army administrative panel.

They took their oaths in the presence of the accused persons and lawyers from both the prosecution and the defence teams.

The panel include Air Vice Marshal James Gbum who is President of the Court, while Air Vice Marshal Iya Abdullahi and Rear Admiral Peter Agba are members of the panel.

Surgeon Rear Admiral Edwin Enechukwu is a waiting member and Colonel Sa’ad Musa is Judge Advocate.

Meanwhile, the offences were not read to the hearing of the public.

However, sources revealed that the accused are said to be facing charges that borders on conduct unbecoming of military officers punishable under the Armed Forces Act.

After the inauguration ceremony, the President of the Court, adjourned the case to Monday, April 0 for arraignment and commencement of trial.

ARMY RESCUED 11, 595 CIVILIANS HELD BY BOKO HARAM

In another development, the Nigerian Army says that it has rescued over 11,000 civilians held at various enclaves by the Boko Haram terrorists.

The Army claimed that the rescue operations were carried out within the past six weeks.

This comes as troops say that they have intensified efforts to clear and mop up all insurgent activities in the north east.

The military further explained that the rescue operations were carried out by different outposts across the region.

It also said that a significant number of them were received from Cameroonian authorities.
