Austria started the brighter of the two sides, controlling possession and creating the better chances during the early exchanges. Head coach Ralf Rangnick encouraged his players to press high and attack with pace, forcing Algeria’s defence into several early mistakes.

Austria responded strongly after the restart.

The Europeans regained their attacking rhythm and restored their advantage in the 55th minute through Marcel Sabitzer.
