Blaqbonez has revealed why he turned down a reported $1 million offer to join Mavin Records, despite the label’s strong influence in the Nigerian music industry.
The rapper made the disclosure in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, where he explained that his decision was largely influenced by his personality and approach to fame.
According to Blaqbonez, he is not comfortable with the level of social media activity expected from artists signed to major labels. He noted that he prefers to keep a low online presence and maintain an air of mystery, rather than constantly engaging with fans.
“Need to get this off my chest… the reason I didn’t sign to Mavin when they were begging me with a million dollars is cos I don’t really like posting. I prefer one tweet per year than engaging my fans… I’m mysterious,” he wrote.
The rapper, who is currently signed to Chocolate City, suggested that his quiet and reserved online persona would not align with the aggressive digital marketing strategies often adopted by top-tier record labels.
His revelation has sparked conversations among fans, with many praising his commitment to authenticity, while others questioned the decision to turn down such a lucrative deal.
Blaqbonez’s statement highlights the growing importance of personal branding in the music industry, where social media presence often plays a key role in an artist’s success. However, his stance shows that some artists are still willing to prioritize individuality and creative control over commercial opportunities.
