Boko Haram funding: Obama and Biden’s irritating silence (Editorial)

The recent bombshell revelation by Congressman Scott Perry (R-PA) alleging that USAID funds under Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s administrations were channeled towards funding terrorist groups like Boko Haram should not be treated with kid’s gloves.
While the accusations are grave and demand immediate investigation, what is equally troubling is the deafening silence from former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, both of whom oversaw USAID during their respective administrations.
Their refusal to address these allegations head-on is not just disappointing—it is irritating and irresponsible.
The claim that U.S. taxpayer dollars were used to indirectly fund terrorism is a serious indictment of the oversight mechanisms in place during their tenures.
USAID, under both Obama and Biden, was tasked with delivering humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations in conflict zones.
If Perry’s allegations hold any truth, it would mean that the very programs designed to alleviate suffering may have instead fueled violence and instability.
This is not just a failure of policy; it is a moral failing that demands accountability.
Obama, who championed transparency and accountability during his presidency, has yet to utter a word on the matter.
Biden, who served as Vice President under Obama and later as President, has also remained conspicuously silent.
Their silence is not just an evasion of responsibility of explaining why a much hyped purpoted humanitarian gesture became an evil mission.
Did they, or their administrations, have any knowledge of potential misallocation of USAID funds?
What steps, if any, were taken to ensure that aid reached its intended recipients and did not fall into the hands of terrorist organizations?
These are questions that demand answers, and the American public deserves nothing less than full transparency.
Critics may argue that Perry’s claims lack concrete evidence, but the absence of evidence does not absolve Obama and Biden of their responsibility to address the issue.
Their silence only fuels speculation and erodes public trust in the institutions they once led.
If they have nothing to hide, they should welcome an independent investigation into USAID’s operations during their administrations.
Anything less would be a huge affront to Nigerians. The stakes are too high to ignore.
If USAID funds were indeed misdirected, it would represent a catastrophic failure of U.S. foreign policy—one that has potentially cost countless lives and destabilized entire regions.
