BREAKING: Fire outbreak in Onitsha market

A fire emergency unfolded early Friday morning in Onitsha, with the Anambra State Fire Service racing to respond to a rapidly spreading blaze at Ifejika Street, near Sokoto Road.

The incident began around 6:20am in one building and quickly escalated to neighboring structures.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, local residents, and passersby, were observed frantically working to rescue properties and goods from the burning premises.

The exact origin of the fire remains unknown at this time.

Chukwudi Chiketa, the head of Media and Publicity for the Anambra State Fire Service, provided an official update confirming the ongoing intervention.

In his statement, he explicitly noted:

Anambra State Fire Service is currently on intervention at the scene of the fire outbreak at Ifejika Street, by Sokoto Road, Onitsha.

“The distress call came at 6:20am today, and our firefighters deployed immediately.

“The public is advised to remain calm as the situation is under control,” he added.

Chiketa’s message urged the public to stay calm while firefighters battled to contain and extinguish the flames, suggesting that professional teams were actively managing the emergency situation.
