Nigeria appears to have halted planned the trans-Saharan gas pipeline project through Niger terminating Algeria, preferring the trans Atlantic alternative to Morocco, DDM can report.

As learnt, Morocco and Nigeria, a few hours ago, are reigniting efforts on a massive gas pipeline project that could bypass Algeria and deliver billions of cubic meters of fuel to Europe.

King Mohammed VI invited Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to visit Morocco during a phone call where they discussed the African-Atlantic Gas Pipeline, a 5,600-kilometer project slated to run along the coastlines of 13 West African nations.

This revelation comes few days after three Ecowas countries, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso pulled out the 49 year old West African Regional body.

Another detail DDM is yet to  confirm is that France may be a key facilitator in the fresh initiative.

Nigeria’s president is currently in France on private visit according to presidency statement.
