According to Diaspora digital media (DDM), Manchester United may still part ways with Casemiro this season, as reports suggest that the Brazilian midfielder is attracting loan interest from his home country.

The 32-year-old, who last played club football in Brazil with São Paulo before moving to Real Madrid’s B team in 2013, has struggled for game time under new United head coach Ruben Amorim.

He has been largely sidelined, making just his second appearance of 2025 when he came on late in United’s FA Cup victory over Leicester City.

Casemiro has not started a match since December’s defeat to Newcastle United and has been left as an unused substitute in nine of the last 11 Premier League fixtures.

Recent reports indicate that Flamengo are keen on securing Casemiro’s services on loan.

Although the English transfer window has closed, Brazilian clubs are still able to sign players as their off-season window remains open until the end of February.

Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola revealed that Flamengo have been “investigating” Casemiro’s availability, with head coach Filipe Luís—formerly of Atlético Madrid and Chelsea—expressing strong interest in bringing him to the club.

Nicola further stated that United would be “willing” to approve a loan move.

Casemiro, who is United’s highest earner, presents a significant financial challenge for Flamengo.

Reports suggest that United would “help with part of the salary” to make the loan deal feasible, similar to how they assisted Marcus Rashford’s temporary move to Aston Villa.

However, Nicola noted that even with United covering a portion of the wages, Flamengo still sees the loan move as a major financial commitment.

Flamengo have been active in the transfer market and have also been linked with Arsenal midfielder Jorginho in recent months.

Their focus on squad reinforcement comes ahead of their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, where they will compete against top European clubs.

The Brazilian side qualified for the tournament after winning the 2022 Copa Libertadores and is looking to strengthen its squad to compete at the highest level.

The club has already made notable signings, including former Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Juventus full-back Danilo, as well as ex-Juventus defender Alex Sandro in 2024.

Their squad also includes captain Gerson, who previously played for Roma and Marseille, and vice-captain Giorgian de Arrascaeta, a key player for Uruguay in the last two World Cups.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid player Guillermo Varela is also part of the Flamengo setup.
