Complete updates from Senate [FOCUS: NE humanitarian crisis]

The senate will on Tuesday deliberate over Humanitarian crisis in the North East.

They will debate report of 4.5 Million people that are in dire need of assistance and 1 million extreme cases of malnutrition.

They will also debate details of Financial Times reports that 2 million people are beyond the reach of aid and at risk of starvation in North East.

Motion on North East will examine why we are losing so many of our children under 5 years to this extreme conditions in affected areas.

Recall that on 17 November, 2015, in recognition of dire situation in North East, the Senate by resolution raised amount proposed by executive in budget for IDP from 6 billion to 10 billion Naira.

Motion on North East will examine the President Muhammadu Buhari initiative on North East which was inaugurated a year ago and yet to show result on ground

Motion notes, notwithstanding, huge budgetary allocation by the National Assembly and various releases by Executive as exemplified in attached table:

North East Motion calls for investigation of diversion of grains & other food items from strategic grains reserves, NEMA and other sources of IDPs.

Motion is to address use of money appropriated to IDPs and North East to ameliorate problems; it also shows disbursement so far has been used to further other.

Motion on North East calls for examination of award of 80.7m to JMT Global Technologies for rehabilitation of police station in Kwambir.
