Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) staged a protest on Thursday at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Katsina State, demanding action over the party’s ongoing leadership dispute.
The protesters, mostly youths, marched along Daura Road before gathering at the INEC office, where they submitted a formal petition. The demonstration, tagged “Amupitan Must Go,” ended with a 74-hour ultimatum to the commission.
They warned that failure to address their concerns could lead to further lawful protests across the country.
Led by Jamilu Yahaya, the group called on INEC to reinstate the leadership of David Mark on its official portal. They also demanded a public apology from the commission, accusing it of actions that undermine constitutional order.
In addition, the protesters urged INEC to avoid acting on party matters without clear court rulings, stressing the need for neutrality in internal party disputes.
The group expressed concern that recent developments could disrupt preparations for the ADC’s upcoming national convention and raise questions about the commission’s impartiality.
Receiving the protest letter, INEC’s Administrative Secretary in the state, Ibrahim Dari, assured the demonstrators that their concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
