Dethroned Emir Bayero Defies Kano Govt, Insists On Leading Sallah Festivals

The deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has issued a circular inviting district heads to participate in the upcoming traditional Sallah Durbar in the state, despite his dethronement.

This move is seen as a challenge to the Kano State Government and the newly reinstated Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The circular, signed by Senior Councillor (Galadiman Kano), Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, directs the district heads to attend a special meeting with the dethroned Emir before Sallah.

This development may further escalate the emirship tussle in Kano State, as Bayero’s action is viewed as a test of his support and loyalty among the district heads and the general public.

The Kano State Government has expressed concern over Bayero’s occupation of the second palace, citing security risks.

The traditional Sallah festivals, such as Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha, are significant symbols of authority and responsibility for the emir, and Bayero’s insistence on leading them may be seen as a bid to reclaim his lost status.
