Ebonyi gov. suspends 2 commissioners for misconduct

Ebonyi state governor, Francis Nwifuru

The governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma and the commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Francis Ori.

Diaspora Digital Media learnt that they were suspended during the State Executive Council meeting on Monday, in Abakaliki – the state capital.

A statement released by the state commissioner for information and state orientation, Mr. Jude Okpor on Tuesday morning stated; “Following cases of gross misconduct and dereliction of duties by some government officials and matters related thereto, the Chairman of Council directed the indefinite suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development and three months suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Health respectively”.

According to newsmen, the development might be related to the alleged theft of ministry property by the ministry of health officials, as well as the housing and urban development commissioner’s poor performance and poor management of the Amaeze Housing Scheme in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.

On Saturday night, the governor was on the grounds of the health ministry when he witnessed six staff reportedly stealing government supplies.

As a result, he issued an order for their detention and subsequent charges, according to report.

 

About Governor Nwifuru

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru was born on February 25, 1975, in Oferekpe Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

He hails from a background and was raised by his parents, who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and community service.

Nwifuru began his educational journey at the Community Primary School, Oferekpe Agbaja, where he completed his primary education.

He then proceeded to the Izzi High School, Izzi, for his secondary education.

After completing his secondary education, Nwifuru attended the Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration.

In addition to his first degree, Nwifuru holds a Master’s degree in Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management from the University of Salford, Manchester, United Kingdom.

He also earned another Master’s degree in Law from Ebonyi State University.

 

Gov. Nwifuru’s career and politics

Before venturing into politics, Nwifuru worked as a bricklayer and later as a businessman.

His entry into politics was driven by his passion for community development and his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of his people.

Nwifuru’s political career began in 2007 when he was elected as a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, representing Izzi West constituency.

He served in the House for three terms, during which he held various leadership positions, including Deputy Speaker and Speaker of the House.

In 2023, Nwifuru contested for the governorship of Ebonyi State under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

He won the election and was inaugurated as the Governor of Ebonyi State on May 29, 2023.

 

Governorship and Policies

As Governor of Ebonyi State, Nwifuru has outlined his vision for the state, which focuses on economic development, infrastructure growth, education, healthcare, and security.

Some of his key policies and initiatives include:

– Infrastructure Development: Nwifuru has pledged to invest heavily in infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, and public buildings.

– Economic Empowerment: He has launched several initiatives aimed at empowering entrepreneurs and small business owners, including the establishment of a microfinance bank and a vocational training center.

Personal Life

Nwifuru is married to Uzoamaka Nwifuru, and they have children together.

He is a Christian and a member of the Catholic Church, according to source.

In his spare time, Nwifuru enjoys reading, playing football, and listening to music.
