The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Monday Okpebholo, has ordered a sweeping crackdown on criminal activities in the state by directing that houses linked to individuals arrested for kidnapping be demolished.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered this order, issued on Friday, January 17, is part of the Edo State government’s broader efforts to curb the alarming rise in criminal activities, particularly kidnappings, which have become a significant threat to public safety in Edo State.

The governor emphasized that the directive for the demolition of properties associated with suspected criminals would be enforced immediately.

This development follows the recent arrest of 16 individuals in Edo Central district, who were apprehended for their involvement in kidnapping activities.

In his statement, Okpebholo asserted that the demolition of properties tied to criminals would serve as a strong deterrent, warning others considering engaging in criminal behavior that their actions would lead to dire consequences.

The governor’s decision reflects a growing resolve by the Edo State government to tackle criminal elements head-on.

Okpebholo also highlighted the importance of ongoing security measures, urging the police and other security agencies to conduct regular raids on known or suspected criminal hideouts throughout Edo State.

He further reassured the citizens of Edo State that the government was committed to eradicating crime and ensuring the safety of the people.

As part of the comprehensive security efforts, the governor revealed that the Edo State government had purchased 75 Toyota Hilux vans, which would be deployed to enhance the mobility and operational capabilities of security forces across Edo State.

Nonetheless, it is clear that the Edo State government is making concerted efforts to take control of the security situation and restore order in the state.

The outcome of this move will likely set a precedent for how other states in Nigeria may handle similar challenges related to crime and public safety.
