Fashola snubs Obiano, dissociates ministry from Anambra flyovers
The Minister of Power Babatunde Fashola, who came to Anambra state on a working visit, refused to visit the Monument of Cement sited at Amaobia, Kwata and Aroma Junction in the capital City of Anambra state.
It was giving out to IDC , a Construction Company owned by a Lebanese handling the 3 Bridges .
Originally the Contract was awarded at the sum 5 billion for the 3 of them but later under suspicious and shrouded atmosphere, the government did a variation and jerked it up to 15 Billion Naira, for a mound of cement erected on dry land.
We know that the design and style of the flyovers were out dated and antiquated.
Modern bridges are hung on suspended pillars so that underneath will be used for many things that will save space.
But these 3 bridges were cast like walls of Jericho and thereby limit the size of the roads.
The Bridge not only narrowed the road, but it constituted big nuisance with daily hectic traffic, especially during rush hour.
So far, trailers and tippers are falling from the bridges owing to the proximity of the 3.
Most old Trailers, after climbing a bridge, need to accelerate for miles to be able to gather momentum to climb another.
But these ones are so close that it makes it difficult for those heavy Lorries to climb up and down and stay healthy.
When the Governor pleaded profusely with the Minister to come and inspect the Bridge, the Minister said that the Bridge was not in any file in his office and it means that it does not exist on that stretch of road.
When the governor pleaded that they ran atop the bridge with the minister, the minister simply told him that he is in Anambra for a working visit and not for any sightseeing.
After that, the minister inspected Umunya axis of Onitsha -Awka Express Road.
He then moved on to Ziks Mausoleum and the next day he inspected the Second Niger Bridge before he left through Asaba without sighting the bridges.
The question now is: so this 15 billion naira of our state fund saved by the previous government has gone down the drain?
We should remember that, out of desperation, my government flew the Minister of Sports who was looking for fund to rent an office for his ministry in Abuja , yes, we flew him First Class and handed him more than enough money for him to switch on electric bulb that was hung on the bridge and powered by Tiger generator.
This, despite the fact what the Bridge urgently needed is traffic lights and not Christmas light as it is currently.
With this latest snubbing from Minister of Works on our 3 Monuments Of Cement, it is obvious that our state is on auto pilot .
