Founder of iReign Christian Ministry Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Rape

On January 26th, 2024, Feyi Daniels, the founder of iReign Christian Ministry, was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a female church member in 2020.

The verdict was delivered by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence court, which found the Lagos-based cleric guilty of rape and sexual assault.

The victim, who was based in Ilorin, was summoned to the Lagos headquarters of the church where the incident happened.

Daniels punished her for not attending a meeting by ordering her to his house in Lekki for punishment.

When she got there, he ordered that she put off her clothes because he wanted to beat her.

Recounting her rape experience, she said, “The following day, we were in the sitting room listening to a pastor’s message when he said I should go naked again.

I did, and surprisingly, he also went naked and raped me for about 30 minutes till I started bleeding because of the tears I sustained despite not being a virgin.”

The victim reported the case in 2022 at the FCID Alagbon, Lagos, leading to the arrest of pastor Daniels.

During his trial, Daniels accused three of the victims of conspiracy, but the court found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The case has drawn attention to the issue of sexual assault and rape within religious institutions.

It is important for religious leaders to be held accountable for their actions and for victims to be able to come forward without fear of retaliation.

The Lagos State government has been working to address the issue of sexual violence through the establishment of the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT).

The team provides legal, medical, and counseling services to victims of sexual violence and works to raise awareness about the issue.

The sentencing of Daniels is a step in the right direction towards ending sexual violence and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

It is important for all individuals and institutions to work together to create a safe and just society for all.
