Former Oyo Governor Victor Olunloyo passes away at 89

Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, the former governor of Oyo State, has died at the age of 89, just days before his 90th birthday.o

Born on April 14, 1935, Olunloyo served as governor from October 1, 1983, to December 31, 1983.

He was also a renowned mathematician, engineer, and technocrat.

He held notable appointments, including being the first Rector of Ibadan Polytechnic and the first Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic.

He also held the titles of Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife.

The family, in a statement signed by Oladapo Ogunwusi, expressed gratitude to the Almighty and appreciation for the understanding of the press and the public as they prepare for a befitting burial.

In April 2024 and June 2022, rumors of Olunloyo’s death circulated, but he debunked them, stating he was “still here, not yet gone”. At the time, he was 89, having surpassed the expected life age, and attributed his longevity to luck.
