Gunmen have killed a pregnant woman and a young man in a fresh attack on Dyan community in Rim Village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Residents said the attackers invaded the community around 10 p.m. on Friday, opening fire and killing the victims.
The deceased were identified as 32-year-old Mrs Happiness Pam, who was pregnant, and 24-year-old Daniel Luka.
Reacting to the incident, the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) condemned the killings, describing the attack as brutal and disturbing.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the association said it received news of the attack with deep shock and sadness, lamenting the continued wave of violence affecting communities in Riyom and other parts of Plateau State.
“It is painful that a pregnant woman carrying the hopes of her family and a young man with his future ahead of him lost their lives in such a senseless attack.
“These killings are not only attacks on innocent individuals but a direct assault on the peace, security and dignity of our people,” the statement said.
The group extended its condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Dyan community, Rim Village and the entire Riyom Local Government Area.
BYM also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down those responsible and bring them to justice. It urged both the Federal Government and the Plateau State Government to take stronger steps to protect vulnerable communities from recurring attacks.
Meanwhile, the association raised fresh concerns over worsening insecurity in the state following the reported abduction of two drivers along the Kassa-Barkin Ladi road.
According to the group, the victims were travelling through the area around 10 p.m. on Thursday when armed men intercepted and abducted them.
BYM appealed to security agencies to step up efforts to rescue the victims and improve security along major roads in affected communities.
The association also advised residents to remain vigilant and avoid travelling at night on routes known for security threats, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting lawful efforts aimed at restoring peace across Plateau State.
