Junketing Tinubu Jets to South Africa, Angola Amid Insecurity Crisis

President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Wednesday for a two-nation visit to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, the presidency announced.

According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s first stop is Johannesburg to attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled from November 22 to 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

The summit brings together leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU), and major financial institutions.

The summit, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will feature three plenary sessions focusing on: inclusive and sustainable growth, disaster risk reduction, climate change, just energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals, decent work, and artificial intelligence.

Tinubu is also expected to hold bilateral meetings to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda and discuss regional and international peace, security, and development.

Following the G20 Summit, Tinubu will proceed to Luanda, Angola, for the 7th AU-EU meeting, scheduled from November 24 to 25. The meeting will gather heads of state, young leaders, innovators, and civil society organizations to address shared challenges such as climate change, infrastructure, the digital economy, manufacturing, agribusiness, and inclusivity in development.

The president will be accompanied by top government officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Finance Minister Wale Edun, Solid Minerals Minister Dele Alake, Trade and Investment Minister Jumoke Oduwole, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

The presidency confirmed that Tinubu will return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the two meetings.
