JUST IN: Qatar Bans Single Nigerian Men from Entering Country

Share this:

Qatar has introduced new and controversial visa restrictions that directly target Nigerian travelers.

The Gulf nation announced that unmarried Nigerian men will no longer be allowed to apply for tourist or transit visas.

The Ministry of Interior in Doha released a statement explaining that the decision follows a rising number of cases involving overstays by Nigerian travelers.

Qatari authorities stressed that only families and female applicants will now be considered for tourist or transit entry into the country.

Male applicants will only qualify if they are traveling with their families.

Under the new rules, stricter requirements have also been imposed.

Applicants must provide proof of a confirmed return flight and valid hotel accommodation booking before a visa can be processed.

The regulations further specify that only five-star hotels will now be accepted for visa approval.

This policy, analysts say, effectively raises the bar and could make it nearly impossible for average Nigerian tourists to access Qatar.

“This is a direct response to the frequent abuse of the country’s visa system,” the statement read.

“A confirmed return transfer must now be booked alongside your hotel.

Only females or families may apply, while male applicants will only be considered when traveling with their family.”

The new restrictions apply not only to fresh applications but also to pending ones, meaning Nigerians who had already submitted requests will face automatic disqualification if they fall under the “single male” category.

This move has sparked immediate debate within Nigeria’s travel community.

Travel agencies described the decision as discriminatory, warning that it unfairly targets Nigerian men based on the actions of a few who overstayed.

Many Nigerians had chosen Qatar in recent years as a transit hub due to its expanding aviation network and rising reputation as a global tourism destination.

Qatar’s announcement also comes as other Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates, have tightened entry rules for Nigerians over similar concerns about overstays and illegal migration.

This growing pattern has fueled fears that Nigerians may face increasing isolation when it comes to global travel.

For now, families and female travelers remain eligible, but the strict new hotel and return-ticket requirements will still make the process more expensive and exclusive.

The policy marks another setback for Nigerian travelers and raises urgent questions about diplomatic engagement between Abuja and Doha.
