Just in: Tensions escalate as Hamas fires rockets, Israel orders new Gaza evacuations
DDM News

The conflict between Israel and Hamas intensified on Sunday following a rocket attack launched by the Palestinian militant group.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas has been a longstanding and complex issue, marked by periodic escalations in violence.
This multifaceted situation involves historical, political, and humanitarian dimensions, each contributing to the ongoing tensions between the two parties.
Attempts at peace negotiations and resolutions have faced numerous challenges, reflecting deep-seated grievances and differing perspectives, and emphasizing the need for sustained international diplomatic efforts to seek a lasting solution.
According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports, Hamas fired a barrage of rockets toward cities located in Israel’s southern region in response to recent Israeli military actions.
According to the Israeli military, around ten projectiles were launched from the Gaza Strip during the surprise offensive.
Most of the incoming rockets were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system before they could cause significant damage.
However, emergency medical services reported at least one person sustained injuries due to shrapnel from the rocket attack.
Rescue teams were quickly dispatched to locations where the rockets reportedly landed, assessing potential damage and assisting affected individuals.
Following the attack, the Israeli military issued an urgent evacuation order targeting civilians in the Deir Al-Balah area of Gaza.
The notice, published via social media platform X, warned residents to evacuate immediately ahead of impending military operations.
“This is a final warning before the attack,” the military’s announcement stated, adding urgency to the unfolding situation.
Shortly afterward, the Israeli military confirmed it had struck the rocket launcher site responsible for the earlier projectile launch.
Meanwhile, Gaza health officials reported at least 39 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Sunday across the territory.
These casualties contributed to an already staggering death toll from ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hamas.
The renewed violence coincided with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s flight to Washington for a diplomatic visit.
While en route, Netanyahu was briefed about the rocket attacks by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.
In a statement released by his office, the Prime Minister ordered a “vigorous response” from military forces against Hamas.
He also authorized the continuation of “intensive military activity” within the Gaza Strip to dismantle Hamas capabilities.
Sunday’s developments mark yet another escalation in a long-running conflict that has devastated communities on both sides.
The latest flare-up occurred just weeks after a temporary ceasefire agreement was declared between the two warring factions.
That ceasefire, which began on January 19, followed over 15 months of continuous warfare and widespread destruction.
It involved a pause in hostilities, the release of several Israeli hostages, and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners.
However, the fragile truce unraveled quickly, with both parties blaming each other for violations and stalled negotiations.
On March 19, Israel officially resumed ground operations in central and southern Gaza, citing security threats from Hamas.
Since then, hostilities have intensified, with Israeli airstrikes targeting Hamas positions and infrastructure across the enclave.
Palestinian authorities claim that more than 50,000 people have died since the Israeli offensive began in October 2023.
Many of the victims are believed to be civilians, including women and children caught in crowded residential neighborhoods.
Gaza’s already fragile healthcare and infrastructure systems have been pushed to the brink by the ongoing conflict.
In response, international aid agencies have raised alarms about worsening humanitarian conditions in the blockaded territory.
Water, food, medicine, and electricity remain critically scarce for Gaza’s civilian population of over two million residents.
The conflict’s current chapter began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas fighters launched an unprecedented cross-border assault into Israel.
That attack killed approximately 1,200 Israelis and resulted in the abduction of 251 individuals taken hostage into Gaza.
Israel’s military response was swift and extensive, involving air, sea, and ground operations targeting Hamas throughout Gaza.
Netanyahu’s government stated the offensive aimed to dismantle Hamas’ operational capability and secure the release of Israeli hostages.
So far, international ceasefire efforts have yielded limited progress, as both sides remain deeply entrenched in their positions.
The formation of safe humanitarian corridors has also faced repeated delays and logistical challenges.
Regional and global leaders continue to call for de-escalation and a renewed commitment to peaceful negotiations.
Despite mounting global pressure, both Hamas and Israel have signaled readiness to continue fighting unless their demands are met.
With each new strike and counterstrike, the humanitarian toll grows heavier on both Palestinian and Israeli communities.
As military operations resume and evacuation orders expand, civilians remain at the center of an increasingly volatile conflict zone.
For now, the outlook remains grim, as neither side appears willing to back down or compromise on core issues.
