(EDITORIAL) Mohbad: No justice, one year after

Published

on

We somberly mark the first anniversary of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Alobah’s (Mohbad) tragic passing, a talented Nigerian artist whose life was abruptly extinguished on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27.

As we reflect on his musical legacy, we are compelled to confront the disturbing reality that the circumstances surrounding his death remain shrouded in an impenetrable veil of controversy.

Mohbad’s family has rejected the autopsy results, demanding an independent post-mortem and toxicology test.

The initial autopsy, conducted on September 21, 2023, was deemed inconclusive due to body decomposition and potential reactions to medications Mohbad received before his death.

The family’s concerns were further exacerbated by the revelation that the toxicology test, purportedly conducted at the National Medical Services Laboratories in Pennsylvania, USA, was denied by the lab itself.

This shocking denial raises profound questions about the integrity of the investigation and the authenticity of the toxicology report.

The Lagos State Government’s claim that the test was conducted at the NMS Labs has been refuted, leaving many to wonder about the true circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.

The family’s demands for a thorough investigation, transparency, and accountability have fallen on deaf ears. Diaspora Digital Media concurs the family’s demand.

The police investigation has been criticized for its lack of thoroughness and professionalism, and the coroner’s inquest has yet to provide conclusive answers.

As we remember Mohbad’s artistry and passion, we must also confront the systemic failures that have enabled this travesty.

The Nigerian authorities must take responsibility for ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation, and the family deserves closure and justice.

The truth, no matter how unpalatable, must be unearthed to honor Mohbad’s memory and uphold the principles of justice.

We will continue to demand answers and push for accountability until the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death are fully revealed.
