A wave of sorrow has swept through the Ashaka community in Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State, Nigeria.

Gombe is a vibrant state located in the northeastern part of Nigeria, known for its rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes.

With its bustling trade activities and welcoming community atmosphere, Gombe offers a unique blend of traditional and modern lifestyles, making it an intriguing destination for visitors and residents alike.

The region is surrounded by picturesque scenery, including the famous Gombe Hills, and is home to various cultural festivals and celebrations that showcase the area’s rich traditions and history.

A 14-year-old boy named Abdullahi has tragically lost his life after consuming a suspected poisonous local mixture.

His friend, also aged 14 and identified as Hassan Adamu, is currently hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

The substance was reportedly given to the boys by a stranger under suspicious circumstances.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the tragic incident occurred on May 1, 2025, and has left the community in shock.

According to local reports, the boys were lured by a man named Babayo Adamu, who is from the Feshingo community in Ashaka.

The man allegedly provided the two teenagers with a locally made drink believed to be toxic.

Shortly after ingesting the mixture, Abdullahi collapsed and died at the scene.

Hassan was quickly rushed to Bajoga General Hospital, where doctors worked to stabilize his condition.

The victim’s father, Usman Dala, immediately reported the matter to the Ashaka Police Division.

Security expert Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

He stated that police sources confirmed the incident and had commenced investigations.

Police officers reportedly arrived at the location by 6:12 p.m. on the day of the incident.

They took photographs of Abdullahi’s body for official records.

They also facilitated the transportation of Hassan to the hospital for emergency treatment.

The suspect, Babayo Adamu, fled the area and has since remained at large.

The police have launched a manhunt in a bid to locate and apprehend him.

Authorities are also trying to determine the composition of the substance given to the boys.

The motive behind the suspect’s actions remains unclear.

The tragic death has renewed concerns about the widespread use of unregulated herbal substances in northern Nigeria.

Many rural communities continue to rely on locally made drugs and concoctions with unknown ingredients.

Such practices have led to several cases of poisoning, illness, and even death across the region.

Parents and community elders are urging the government to act swiftly.

They are calling for public health campaigns to educate residents on the dangers of consuming unsafe mixtures.

They also want stricter regulations on the sale and distribution of traditional herbal substances.

The people of Ashaka are mourning the death of young Abdullahi.

His untimely passing has left a painful void in the hearts of his family and friends.

There is also growing pressure on authorities to bring the fugitive suspect to justice.

Residents hope that prompt action will prevent such a tragedy from repeating itself.

For now, the focus remains on ensuring Hassan’s full recovery and seeking justice for Abdullahi.
