The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has unveiled an upgraded version of its Med Safety App, a digital platform aimed at improving the monitoring and reporting of unsafe, counterfeit, and substandard medicines across Nigeria.
The enhanced application enables healthcare professionals and members of the public to report suspected fake drugs and adverse drug reactions directly from their mobile devices, allowing for faster communication with regulatory authorities.
According to NAFDAC, the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen pharmacovigilance and enhance public participation in safeguarding the nation’s healthcare system. By simplifying the reporting process, the agency hopes to encourage timely submission of information that can support investigations and regulatory action.
Health experts have welcomed the development, noting that improved reporting systems can play a critical role in identifying potentially harmful products before they cause widespread health consequences. They also highlighted the importance of public involvement in addressing the persistent challenge of counterfeit medicines in the country.
NAFDAC is urging Nigerians to download the Med Safety App on Android and iOS devices and use the platform to report suspicious medical products, adverse reactions, and other drug-related safety concerns.
The agency believes that increased public engagement, combined with effective regulatory oversight, will contribute to reducing the circulation of unsafe medicines and ensuring greater access to quality healthcare products nationwide.
Officials added that the upgraded platform represents another step toward building a more responsive and technology-driven system for protecting public health and enhancing consumer confidence in regulated medical products.
