NDDC MD/CEO Cup: Apostle Nkono congratulates victorious Team Akwa-Cross

Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono, Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom State on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), warmly welcomed the victorious Akwa-Cross team at the recently concluded NDDC MD/CEO Cup at the Akwa Ibom State office of the Commission.

The team made up of staffers from the Akwa Ibom and Cross River State offices of the commission emerged as the overall champions in the recently concluded NDDC MD/CEO Cup, winning top prizes in both male and female categories.

The indomitable team also had a clean sweep of the individual awards at the tournament.

Apostle Nkono praised the team for their outstanding performance, enjoining them to sustain the standard.

“Success is not just about winning, but also about managing that success. It is a thing of joy and we must ensure this becomes permanent.

“The state office is happy with you and will continue to support you. Thank you for making both states proud,” he stated.

He expressed belief that victory will improve workplace collaboration and boost staff productivity.

Directors Engr Evong Evong and Mrs. Anthonia Akpan also heaped praises on the team.

The NDDC MD/CEO Cup aimed to promote workplace collaboration, staff health, and fitness among employees.

The tournament featured teams competing in various sports, showcasing the commission’s commitment to creating a healthy work environment.

At the closing ceremony of the tournament, the Commission’s Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, emphasized the importance of staff well-being, stating that the commission is dedicated to fostering a culture of tolerance, improved relationships, and optimal physical energy to drive development in the Niger Delta region.

Dr. Ogbuku, re-emphasised the Commission’s commitment to improving staff’s physical and mental well-being through sports.

He said, “we are committed to an improved healthy working environment built on a high level of tolerance, improved relationships, and optimal physical energy to carry out the responsibilities of developing the region.”

The tournament was held from April 1st to 8th, 2025, at the football turf of the Port Harcourt Club, Rivers State.
