The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is set to host a stakeholders’ summit from July 10-13, 2024, to develop new strategies for the economic growth and development of the Niger Delta Region.

According to the Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the summit will focus on creating tailored plans for renewed hope and development in the region.

Dr. Ogbuku emphasized the importance of active participation from the people in the development process, stressing that the commission wants to ensure that the people are fully involved in shaping their own destiny.

He also highlighted the need for participatory democracy, where both leadership and followers have a proper understanding of policies and programs.

The summit is coming on the heels of President Tinubu’s directive to the NDDC to complete and commission signature projects aimed at improving the lives of the people in the Niger Delta region.

Recently, the commission inaugurated five flagship projects, including roads, bridges, and electricity facilities, across the region.

The summit, tagged “#NigDelSS24 #NigerDeltaStakeholdersSummit2024”, is expected to bring together stakeholders from various sectors, including government, private sector, civil society, and community leaders, to brainstorm and develop new strategies for the development of the region.

Some of the key areas that will be focused on during the summit include:

– Economic development and growth
– Infrastructure development
– Human capital development
– Environmental sustainability
– Social welfare and community development

The summit is expected to produce a communiqué that will outline the new strategies and action plans for the development of the Niger Delta Region.

He called on all stakeholders to participate actively in the summit and contribute to the development of the region.
