Nigeria has officially begun implementing a 30-day visa-free entry policy for Rwandan citizens, in a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and promoting easier movement between both countries.
The policy, announced by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), allows Rwandan nationals to enter Nigeria without a visa for up to 30 days for purposes including tourism, business, and official engagements.
According to the Immigration Service spokesperson, the decision follows an earlier announcement by President Bola Tinubu at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, where he outlined plans for reciprocal travel arrangements between Nigeria and Rwanda.
Authorities, however, stressed that visitors who wish to stay beyond the 30-day period must obtain the appropriate visa through Nigerian diplomatic missions or the country’s e-visa system.
The NIS directed all entry points including airports, land borders, and seaports to begin immediate enforcement of the new policy.
The agency described the move as part of broader efforts to deepen cooperation between Nigeria and Rwanda, while also advancing regional integration and economic collaboration across Africa.
Officials added that the initiative reflects strong bilateral relations between Nigeria and Rwanda and aligns with Nigeria’s wider immigration and development strategy under its current administration.
