Nigeria Police arrest, parade lady, boyfriend for faking kidnap, extorting ransom from relative abroad

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command of the Nigeria Police have arrested a lady, Imaobong Francis Sampson and her boyfriend, Beltus Ebong, for staging her self kidnap, demanding N4m from an aunt who lives abroad.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko Macdon announced this on Friday while parading the suspects at the Command’s Headquarters in Uyo.

He said the Anti-Kidnapping Squad received a report on 11th March, 2024 from one Enobong Sampson, a female of Nung Oku in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the State that her sister was kidnapped.

The Police spokesman said the next day, 12th March, 2024, the purported kidnapped victim, Imaobong Sampson and her boyfriend were arrested in her hideout at Mbierebe Obio in Ibesikpo Asutan.

According to him, Imaobong confessed to have conspired with her boyfriend, one Beltus Ebong alongside one Dominic Friday Charlie, her sister, Enobong Sampson ‘and Inyene Ime Akpan now at large to proclaim her kidnap in order to raise money from her aunty who is based abroad.

Also on Friday,  an electrician identified as Bright Okon, was pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, Abia State after he fell off ladder.l

DDM learnt the incident took place on Thursday at about 12:30pm when the 24-year-old was carrying out maintenance work at Evergreen Hotel, Umuahia.

He was said to have reached the top of the ladder when he was suddenly electrocuted.

He lost balance, and tumbled to the ground where he sustained injury on his head.

He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officers of Abia State Police Command have visited the scene as investigation commences.
