Odinkalu dey hail Kekere-Ekun for di action wey she take on judges wey no dey follow di rules

Professor of Law, Chidi Odinkalu, don praise di Chief Justice of Naija, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun for di sanctions wey di National Judicial Commission put on some judges.

According to report say, NJC don sanction five justices for breaching di professional rules for different ways, on Friday November 15, 2024.

NJC take di decision for dem 107th meeting wey happen for 13 and 14 November 2024.

Imo State Chief Judge, Chukwuemeka Chikeka and di Grand Kadi of Yobe State, Hon. Kadi Babagana Mahdi, don receive sanction for falsifying dem ages.

Also, Justice G.C Aguma wey dey Rivers State High Court and Justice A.O Nwabunike wey dey Anambra State High Court don suspend for one year from to do dia work.

“Hon. Justice T. E. Chukwuemeka Chikeka dem recommend am to di Governor of Imo State make e retire compulsory from 27 October 2021.”

“And all di salary and allowance wey His Lordship don collect wey pass wetin e suppose collect from 27 October 2021 till now suppose return am to di Council.”

“Di recommendation na bicos wetin di Council find out say His Lordship get two different date of birth; 27 October 1956 and 27 October 1958.”

“But 27 October 1956 na di date wey dey consistent, but for 2006, di Chief Judge swear affidavit wey change di date of birth to 27 October 1958.”

“Same way, Council find say Hon. Kadi Mahdi get 3 different dates of birth (10 December, 28 January and July) all for 1959, but him real date of birth na 1952.

“Council talk say Grand Kadi Mahdi do misconduct wey violate Rule 02908 (i) and (ii) of di Public Service Rules, 2021 and suppose don retire from service 12 years ago.”

“Council, so, decide to recommend Hon. Kadi Babagana Mahdi for compulsory retirement to di Governor of Yobe State.”

“And make e refund all salary and allowance wey e don collect for di past 12 years,” di statement talk for part.”

For him reaction, di judicial reform advocate, Professor Odinkalu talk say di Chief Justice of Naija do di correct thing.

“Madam CJN, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun don act quick for dis mata of age falsification by di Chief Judge of Imo State.”

“She don do di right thing di right way. “I dey hope say dis go set di tone for di reshaping of judicial standards under her tenure as head of NJC,” Odinkalu talk.

Kudirat join Lagos State Judiciary as Senior Magistrate II and she rise to di position of State High Court Judge.

She serve as Chairman of Robbery and Firearms Tribunal, Zone II, Ikeja from November 1996 to May 1999.

Dem appoint am to di bench of Naija courts of appeal for 2004 before dem appoint am as Justice of di Supreme Court of Naija for July 2013.

In 2020, Kekere-Ekun dey for di seven-member panel wey sack Imo State governor Emeka Ihedioha and declare say di winning candidate na Hope Uzodinma of di All Progressives Congress (APC), wey originally come fourth for di election results.

Ihedioha talk say di verdict no fair, no just and e no reflect di voting wey happen during di elections, but e go respect di judgement.

On 23 August 2024, President Bola Tinubu swear in Kekere-Ekun for Council Chamber of State House for Abuja.

Her appointment make am di second woman wey go become Naija Chief Justice afta Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar.

Kekere-Ekun self don become di first woman from Southwest geopolitical zone of Naija wey go be Chief Justice of Naija.
