ASABA, DELTA STATE – Chief Great Ogboru has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development followed a peaceful primary election in which Ogboru secured the party’s ticket after defeating Emmanuel Unuafe in the contest.

The exercise, conducted under the supervision of party officials, was described by stakeholders as orderly, transparent, and free of major disputes, reflecting growing efforts within the party to strengthen internal democracy.

African Democratic Congress leaders in Delta State said the primary process was designed to produce a consensus of trust among party members while ensuring that a credible candidate emerged to represent the party in the governorship race.

Party officials noted that the peaceful nature of the primary reflects the ADC’s commitment to building a stable internal structure ahead of the 2027 elections, especially in politically competitive states like Delta.

Ogboru, a long-time political figure in Delta State politics, is expected to lead the party’s campaign with a focus on governance reforms, economic development, and improved public service delivery.

Supporters within the party described his emergence as a unifying factor, saying it would help strengthen grassroots mobilisation across the state’s local government areas.

They further expressed optimism that the party can build momentum ahead of the general elections by capitalising on growing political awareness and voter engagement in the region.

Emmanuel Unuafe, who also participated in the primary, was acknowledged by party members for his role in the democratic process, with officials urging all aspirants to remain united after the contest.

Political observers say the outcome positions the ADC as a party seeking to expand its influence in Delta State, where competition among major political parties remains intense.

Ogboru is expected to formally begin consultations with stakeholders, community leaders, and party executives as preparations for the 2027 governorship election intensify across the state.

Analysts believe that the coming months will be crucial for the ADC as it seeks to consolidate its structure and present a strong challenge in Delta State’s political landscape.
