Nigerian entrepreneur and fintech executive Morris Monye has raised concerns over the state of the country’s aviation sector after allegedly being issued a handwritten boarding pass by United Nigeria Airlines.
Monye shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), posting a video of the handwritten ticket he received while preparing to board an early morning flight. According to him, several other passengers on the same flight were also given similar manually written boarding passes a situation he described as both surprising and troubling.
“What’s going on with our aviation,” he wrote. “I was on an early morning flight with United Nigeria, and I (along with many other passengers) was issued a handwritten ticket. If I didn’t video it, you probably would not believe me. It’s concerning for me.”
The incident reportedly occurred at the domestic wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, as Monye was travelling from Lagos to Anambra.
He noted that the unusual method of issuing boarding passes caused confusion among travellers, many of whom were accustomed to the standard printed tickets typically used by airlines. The development, he said, raised questions about the airline’s booking and check-in systems, as well as broader operational standards within the aviation sector.
The video has since sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over safety, accountability, and the need for improved infrastructure and professionalism in the country’s aviation industry. Others called on relevant authorities to investigate the matter and ensure such occurrences are addressed promptly.
