Ghana’s Presidential Poll: Pastors, Physician, Musicians, Soldier, others vie for country’s top job
Ghana’s upcoming presidential election, scheduled for December 7, 2024, has attracted an impressive array of 39 candidates, each with their unique background and vision for the country’s future.
Diaspora Digital Media gathered that their diverse fields include independent hopefuls from various sectors, such as music, ministry, military, and entrepreneurship.
Among the candidates are:
1. George Twum-Barimah-Adu, a seasoned businessman and nephew of the late Kwaku Boateng Esq, a former government minister in the administration of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Twum-Barimah-Adu has extensive experience in the private sector, having worked with Cypress Investments Limited as Executive Director.
2. Samuel Apea-Danquah, a 42-year-old entrepreneur with interests in IT, media, and herbal medicine.
He previously contested in the 2020 General Elections as an Independent Candidate for Parliament in the Ablekuma Central Constituency.
3. Richard Sumah, a marketing consultant and engineer with a strong background in business development.
4. Desmond Abrefah, a prophet and founder of Save the Nation Movement, as well as Come To Jesus Personal Ministry.
5. Dr. Agnes Ayisha, a musician and founder of Liberation of National Youth for Change (LNYC) and United Africa Diaspora.
6. Dr. Nii Amu Darko, an Australian-based Ghanaian medical physician and founder of the First Alliance of Independent Reformers (FAIR) political party.
7. Wilberforce Andrews, a former Executive member of the United Nations International Monitory Fund and distance associate of the American Administration under President Joe Biden.
8. Flt. Sgt. T.K. Amenyah, a retired military man promising a new evolution of modern governance.
9. Robert Roy Reindorf, a businessman and musician who owns a restaurant and has previously contested in the 2012 presidential election.
10. Paul Perkoh, founder and leader of the National Liberation Movement and current Managing Director at Apenkwa Trading.
The list continues with other notable candidates for the election, including:
– Seth Ntim Agyarko, founder and leader of the People’s Liberation Front (PLF)
– Nana Ohene Aggrey Bentsil Djan, founder and leader of the People’s Party
– Tom Asiseh, founder and leader of the Ghanaian Diaspora Movement and Independent Presidential Movement, as well as a philanthropist
– Kenneth Kwame Asamoah, founder and leader of the Action People’s Party (APP)
– James Kwasi Oppong, founder and presidential candidate of the Risen People’s Party and an Apostle.
The Electoral Commission has slated September 9-13 for the filing of nominations, and it remains to be seen how many of these 39 presidential hopefuls will successfully submit their nominations.
The election promises to be an exciting contest with such a diverse range of candidates.
