Paul Pogba’s future at Monaco has become uncertain after the French club admitted that the World Cup winner could leave during the summer transfer window following a disappointing debut season affected by fitness problems.
The experienced midfielder joined Monaco with hopes of reviving his career after a difficult period away from regular football, but injuries limited his impact and prevented him from becoming the influential figure the club expected.
Monaco’s general manager Thiago Scuro has now confirmed that the club will carefully assess Pogba’s situation before deciding whether he remains part of their plans for the upcoming campaign.
Speaking about the midfielder’s future, Scuro admitted that a departure remains a possibility while praising Pogba’s professionalism and influence within the dressing room.
“Yes, of course. Maybe he will leave, maybe he will stay. It’s a very complicated subject,” Scuro said.
The Monaco official explained that the club respected Pogba as both a player and a person, highlighting the positive influence he had on younger teammates after arriving at Stade Louis II.
However, he also acknowledged that the project surrounding Pogba did not develop as expected during his first season in Ligue 1.
“When we started it, the expectations we had were very different,” Scuro added, reflecting on the challenges surrounding the midfielder’s return to competitive football.
Pogba’s struggles have largely been connected to his physical condition. The 33 year old managed only six appearances for Monaco last season, playing just 115 minutes of football due to several injury setbacks.
A combination of thigh, calf and ankle problems prevented him from building rhythm, leaving Monaco unable to benefit from the creativity, passing range and leadership qualities that made him one of the world’s elite midfielders during his prime years.
The arrival of new Monaco head coach Filipe Luís has created another important stage in determining Pogba’s future. The former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea defender is expected to evaluate the entire squad during pre season before making decisions about which players fit into his tactical plans.
Pogba’s preparation during the summer will be closely monitored, with the coaching staff focusing on whether he can regain the physical level required to compete consistently at the highest level.
