Supporters of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lamba Ward, Wase Local Government, protested against inadequate Ramadan palliatives on Wednesday.

The demonstrators burned party billboards, posters, and the palliative items distributed to them in frustration over the meager relief package.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the protest began after party members received what they considered an insufficient amount of food supplies from local government officials.

The distributed palliatives included a few bags of rice and maize, which the protesters claimed were unfairly allocated.

Angry supporters accused the local government chairman of withholding their rightful share and denying them adequate assistance.

Protesters reject palliatives, burn party billboards

Eyewitnesses reported that the protesters took to the streets, chanting, “We don’t want it! Take the palliative to the chairman!”

The demonstrators set fire to posters, billboards, and palliatives while blocking roads with burning items.

According to sources, the Wase Local Government chairman allocated only nine bags of rice and maize for an entire ward.

Each bag contained six measures of grain, which many party members considered grossly inadequate for thousands of supporters.

Haladu Mus, a frustrated party member, criticized the distribution as unfair and insulting to dedicated PDP supporters.

He revealed that Ja’oji polling unit received only two measures of rice and one measure of maize.

He added that Runji polling unit received the same amount, which was insufficient for the fasting period.

Another party supporter, Dayyabu Ibrahim, condemned the distribution and called it a failure of leadership.

He warned that local party officials would face consequences for their actions in the 2027 elections.

Ibrahim vowed that party members would not forget the neglect shown towards them during Ramadan.

Some protesters gathered at the party office to express their disappointment and frustration over the unfair palliative distribution.

They accused the local government chairman of prioritizing his interests over the welfare of loyal party members.

The demonstrators insisted that the chairman failed to provide adequate relief during the holy month of Ramadan.

They warned that the PDP leadership should expect backlash in future elections if grassroots supporters continued to be neglected.

Efforts to obtain a response from the chairman, Hamisu Amani, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

Repeated calls to his phone went unanswered, and a text message sent to him received no response.

The incident highlights growing discontent among party supporters over the handling of relief efforts.

The protest serves as a warning to political leaders about the consequences of neglecting their grassroots supporters.
