The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been battling internal crises, with divisions among its members affecting party stability.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) revailed that disagreements within the party have deepened, particularly after the 2023 general elections, leading to internal conflicts and leadership struggles.

Amid efforts by the PDP Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees to reconcile aggrieved members, the party’s disciplinary committee has taken action.

The disciplinary committee has invited former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and Senator Samuel Anyanwu over petitions against them.

They are among several members facing inquiries following complaints about their conduct during and after the last elections.

Chairman of the disciplinary committee, Tom Ikimi, announced this after a committee meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

Ikimi stated that the committee reviewed multiple petitions and categorized them into different sets based on their nature.

The first set of petitions was against key members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP.

However, to support ongoing reconciliation efforts, the committee decided to step down three of these petitions.

The disciplinary committee emphasized the importance of maintaining party unity while addressing issues of indiscipline.

After thorough deliberations, the committee resolved to proceed with the second set of petitions.

These include allegations against former Governor Ortom, ten others, and a separate petition against Senator Anyanwu.

The committee has summoned them to appear on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

The disciplinary committee assured party members that all individuals involved would receive a fair hearing.

It reaffirmed its commitment to handling disciplinary matters transparently and without bias.

According to the committee, its actions are not targeted at individuals but are aimed at strengthening internal democracy.

It urged all those summoned to cooperate by appearing before the committee as scheduled.

The PDP leadership has struggled to maintain cohesion following post-election grievances and allegations of anti-party activities.

Some members have openly criticized the NWC’s handling of the crisis, calling for a comprehensive restructuring.

The disciplinary committee believes addressing these petitions is crucial to restoring order within the party.

Despite ongoing reconciliation efforts, tensions remain high, with some party members expressing concerns about the disciplinary process.

The committee, however, insists that discipline is essential for the PDP to rebuild and regain political strength.

It expressed confidence that these measures will help reposition the PDP ahead of future elections.

The disciplinary committee urged all members to remain committed to party ideals and respect internal mechanisms for resolving disputes.
