Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old man, Samson Onilewaji, after he was allegedly found in possession of a suspected human hand, firearms and other incriminating items during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the statement, officers intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six occupants during the operation.
“Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, while conducting a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus conveying six occupants and arrested one male occupant found in possession of a suspected human body part, firearms and other stolen items,” the statement read.
Police said a search of the suspect, identified as Samson Onilewaji, revealed a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal and five ATM cards.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicate that the suspect confessed to recently robbing three individuals of their belongings, including the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards.
The command said investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, determine how the suspect came into possession of it and ascertain its intended use.
Police also said efforts are underway to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal network linked to the suspect.
“The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to support policing efforts and enhance public safety.
