Police authorities have arrested two suspects, including the man accused of sending the pistol and ammunition linked to the killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi by a police officer in Effurun, Delta State.

Sources familiar with the investigation said the suspects were brought into the Effurun Area Command on Wednesday night as detectives intensified efforts to track down everyone connected to the movement of the firearm and the fatal shooting.

Although the Delta State Police Command has yet to make an official statement, a source told Vanguard that one of those arrested is believed to be the individual who sent the Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, through a transport company.

According to the source, Ogidi, popularly known as “Mine,” allegedly picked up the parcel in Effurun with the intention of delivering it to the owner in Sapele before he was intercepted by ASP Nuhu Usman and other officers.

The incident reportedly ended in Ogidi being shot dead in what many residents have described as an extrajudicial killing.

“It’s confirmed. They brought in two suspects on Wednesday night,” the source said.

“One of them is the person who sent the gun from Yenagoa to Effurun.

Investigators are still trying to determine the exact role of the second suspect, though there are indications he could be the driver who transported the parcel.”

The source added that investigations were still ongoing and that authorities were working to identify and arrest other people connected to the case.

The killing of Ogidi has sparked outrage in Delta State, with growing calls for accountability and justice over the actions of the police officers involved.

The case also raised fresh concerns about the illegal movement of firearms across states and the conduct of security operatives during arrests and stop-and-search operations.
