Security operatives and police in Delta State have recorded major breakthroughs in their efforts to combat criminal activities, leading to multiple arrests.

The police successfully apprehended suspected kidnappers and armed robbers while recovering firearms and military uniforms in different parts of the state.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, confirmed these developments in a statement emphasizing the command’s dedication to law enforcement.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that he reiterated the commitment of the police under Commissioner of Police (CP) Olufemi Abaniwonda to ensuring peace and security in Delta State.

Police raid kidnappers’ hideout, recover firearms

The CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, launched an intelligence-driven operation to track a kidnapping gang leader.

The suspect, identified as Emeka, was targeted based on credible information suggesting his involvement in multiple kidnapping cases across the state.

On February 2, 2025, police operatives stormed his hideout located at Evwokenren Layout, off Ughelli Road in Agbarho, Ughelli North LGA.

During the raid, police recovered a fabricated semi-automatic Beretta pistol with four rounds of live ammunition hidden in his apartment.

Additionally, officers seized four locally made cut-to-size guns, thirteen rounds of live cartridges, and a pair of military uniforms.

The recovered items were concealed inside a black polythene bag, indicating attempts by the suspect to evade detection by authorities.

Emeka was arrested on the spot, and police have intensified efforts to track down his accomplices who are currently at large.

The police assured residents that thorough investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the suspect’s criminal activities.

Another major breakthrough was recorded on February 19, 2025, when the Safer Highway Patrol Team intercepted a commercial vehicle along Agbor-Benin Expressway.

The operation, conducted around 4:00 p.m., was part of routine security checks aimed at preventing criminal activities on major highways.

During the search, police officers discovered three locally made long guns and various charms concealed inside passengers’ belongings in the vehicle.

The arrested suspects were identified as Buhari Bala (28), Habibu Sale (25), Abdulwahab Musa (20), and Taisu Bala (20).

They claimed they were traveling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to a bush near Benin City for a hunting expedition.

However, police authorities have initiated an investigation to verify their claims and determine the real purpose of their journey

The police noted that the seizure of firearms and charms raised suspicions about possible criminal intentions beyond what the suspects claimed.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and report suspicious movements of individuals transporting weapons across different parts of the country.

DPO-led operation uncovers hidden weapons

On January 17, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division, CSP Pius Eredei, led a raid based on intelligence.

The operation targeted the residence of a suspect identified as Eriga Enyuche, a 40-year-old man allegedly involved in illegal arms dealings.

A thorough search of his apartment led to the discovery of a G-3 rifle and a pump-action gun.

The weapons were found concealed inside the ceiling, raising suspicions about the suspect’s involvement in organized criminal activities.

Police arrested Enyuche immediately, and further investigations are ongoing to trace the source and intended use of the firearms.
