Hausa praise singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara has publicly criticized Nigerian music star Davido over his decision to display the names of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo State during the 2026 FIFA World Cup countdown concert.
In a video reaction, Rarara described the move as inappropriate and damaging, questioning why such a sensitive national security issue would be projected on a global stage. He argued that highlighting insecurity in that manner could negatively affect Nigeria’s image internationally.
According to him, “How can you promote terrorists or insecurity-related issues to the whole world? How can you take a sensitive national security issue and project it globally in a way that could damage the country’s reputation?”
Rarara also questioned Davido’s intentions, suggesting that the act may have political undertones tied to his family background. He stated that using insecurity as a campaign tool reflects a lack of understanding of the gravity of such issues.
The singer further explained that the abduction reportedly occurred following the arrest of some suspected terrorists, adding that security agencies had already assured the public of ongoing rescue efforts. He expressed concern that bringing global attention to the situation at such a critical time could undermine those efforts.
Additionally, Rarara warned content creators and public figures against using insecurity-related narratives for engagement or political gain. He maintained that such actions could inadvertently harm the country’s image and potentially embolden criminal elements.
The controversy has sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting Davido’s awareness-driven approach, while others agree with Rarara’s stance on the need for caution when addressing sensitive national issues on international platforms.
