A political shake-up has struck Kogi State’s Dekina Local Government Area.

More than 300 APC and SDP members have defected, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathers.

They joined the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on May 25, 2025.

The mass defection took place in Ogbabede Ward, Dekina Local Government Area.

This movement marks a major turning point in Kogi’s political trajectory.

The defection was led by Hon. Husseini Umar Eniji.

He is a respected political figure in Dekina and a key Kwankwasiyya advocate.

His reputation played a vital role in swaying the defectors.

His leadership added credibility to the NNPP’s growing presence in the region.

Many believe his influence helped fast-track the switch from APC and SDP.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) learned that the red cap symbol dominated the defection event.

Supporters embraced the cap to signify loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya ideology.

The movement attracted large numbers of women and youth.

It became a rallying point for those disillusioned with existing parties.

Their presence highlighted rising grassroots support for the NNPP.

Hon. Eniji addressed the crowd with a unifying message.

He spoke of equity, justice, and fairness as core NNPP values.

He urged the new members to stay united and focused.

He emphasized that collective effort would shape a better political future.

The crowd responded enthusiastically, cheering his words.

The development is causing ripples across Kogi State’s political landscape.

The APC and SDP are now facing serious challenges in their strongholds.

Political observers say the defection signals wider shifts in voter allegiance.

They predict the NNPP could disrupt traditional party dominance.

Momentum appears to be building ahead of the 2027 elections.

Dekina may be just the starting point of wider NNPP gains.

The defection offers a model for expanding into other Kogi regions.

It positions the party as a rising alternative in the North Central zone.

But while the NNPP grows in Kogi, trouble brews elsewhere.

In Kano, the party is losing ground due to internal defections.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s leadership is facing mounting scrutiny.

Party cohesion issues threaten national unity within the NNPP.

Still, the successful rally in Ogbabede sends a strong message.

The NNPP is gaining strength at the grassroots level.

Observers are watching closely as 2027 draws near.

The political dynamics in Kogi are shifting quickly.

The red cap movement is energizing voters and redefining alliances.

For now, the NNPP appears to hold the advantage.

Whether it can sustain this momentum remains to be seen.

But one thing is clear: the red cap is here to stay.
