The Taiwanese Government has urged Nigeria to explore a strategic partnership that supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Mr. Andy Liu, Chief Information Officer of Taiwan’s Government in Nigeria, made this appeal during a media  chat on Monday April 7, 2025, in Lagos.

Liu said Taiwan is ready to collaborate with Nigeria on economic revitalisation through digital innovation and technology transfer.

He stressed that Nigeria’s abundant resources and Taiwan’s technological strength could produce a powerful synergy for national development.

According to Liu, Taiwan sees huge potential in Nigeria’s agriculture, energy, and mining sectors for mutual investment and cooperation.

“President Tinubu declared during his November 2022 campaign that he aimed to make the South-East the ‘Taiwan of Africa,’” Liu recalled.

“We are honoured by this vision and ready to support its realisation through innovation, training, and technology sharing,” he added.

Liu emphasised that both Taiwan and Nigeria are WTO members and supporters of free trade and economic integration.

He said Taiwan looks forward to working with Nigeria to strengthen trade, manufacturing, and innovation-driven sectors.

“Taiwan’s digital economy and manufacturing capabilities can assist Nigeria in modernising its economy,” Liu stated confidently.

He further noted that Taiwan is willing to provide technical know-how to support Nigeria’s energy and mining sectors.

Liu praised Nigeria’s strong democratic institutions, saying they resemble Taiwan’s commitment to transparent governance and people-centered leadership.

He highlighted the similarities in democratic values and press freedom between both countries.

“Nigeria and Taiwan both cherish democracy, free speech, and fair elections,” he said.

He described Nigeria’s vibrant media landscape as a symbol of its democratic strength.

“Taiwan believes in values like freedom of expression, just as Nigeria does,” Liu said.

He concluded by saying that shared democratic ideals and economic interests make Nigeria and Taiwan natural partners.

“We hope Nigeria considers Taiwan a trusted friend in development,” Liu said.
