The Co-Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics, Han Jong-Hee, has passed away at the age of 63.

According to report, Han reportedly suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died on Tuesday March 25, 2025.

His sudden demise comes as a major shock to the global technology industry, where he was widely regarded as influential.

A Legacy of Innovation

Han played a pivotal role in Samsung’s dominance in the television industry, helping the company remain the world’s leading TV manufacturer.

He joined Samsung in 1988 and spent decades in the television division, driving innovations in display technology and AI-powered televisions.

Under his leadership, Samsung introduced premium ultra-large screen models that appealed to global consumers and set new industry standards.

His contributions were key to Samsung securing the top position in the global TV market for nearly two decades.

In 2022, Han was appointed Co-Vice Chairman and CEO, overseeing both the consumer electronics and mobile divisions of Samsung.

His leadership extended beyond televisions, contributing to advancements in Samsung’s smartphone, home appliance, and artificial intelligence-driven product lines.

Company Leadership Restructuring

Following his passing, Jun Young Hyun, head of Samsung’s semiconductor division, will now take over Han’s duties as sole CEO.

This leadership transition is expected to ensure stability and continuity as Samsung continues pushing for groundbreaking technological advancements globally.

Meanwhile, market research firm Omdia reports Samsung retained its position as the world’s top TV brand in 2024 with 28.3% market share.

This achievement marks 19 consecutive years, since 2006, that Samsung has remained the dominant global force in the television industry.
