SAZU reaffirms commitment to impactful research in Nigeria

Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) in Bauchi State has restated its dedication to conducting research that tackles Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

Specifically, the institution focuses on fostering development and innovation to benefit local communities.

During a three-day training program on Research for Impact (R4I) and Grant Writing, Professor Bala Abdulhamid Ma’aji, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), emphasized the critical role of research in societal progress. Representing Vice Chancellor Professor Fatimah Tahir, he urged academic staff to produce relevant and impactful studies.

Organized by SAZU’s Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation (CERI), the training equips participants with essential skills for designing and implementing meaningful research. Furthermore, it enhances their ability to secure funding through compelling grant proposals, ensuring tangible community benefits.

Professor Ma’aji stressed that research can effectively address Nigeria’s challenges, particularly in the Northeast. He encouraged attendees to refine their grant-writing and research methodology skills, as these are vital for securing funding and achieving measurable impact.

Dr. Usman Waziri, CERI Director, highlighted the training as a key step toward promoting research excellence. He explained that the program would empower participants to craft competitive proposals capable of attracting funding and driving positive change.

Forty-six academic staff from various faculties are participating in the initiative.

Consequently, SAZU expects a significant boost in research output and stronger community engagement.

The university’s leadership reiterated its mission to solve societal issues through research. Additionally, they urged participants to maximize the training to expand their expertise. By prioritizing impactful research, SAZU aims to contribute substantially to Nigeria’s development and innovation efforts.
