Shock as Nnamdi Kanu directs his supporters to join Nigeria politics

The convicted leader of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has directed his supporters to join Nigeria politics.

The directive was communicated by his lawyer, Maxwell Opara when he appeared on a radio program in Imo State last week.

He said Nnamdi Kanu encouraged Igbos to join Nigeria politics so as to free him from life jail.

“We can build a new Nigeria”, Maxwell said during the radio program.

Also, Maxwell noted that if Igbos were actively involved in politics in Nigeria, the day Nnamdi Kanu was jailed, representatives who are aligned to his sentiment would have raised motions in the national assembly, kicking against his conviction.

Barrister Maxwell Opara also seized the opportunity to announce his official entry into politics.

The lawyer to the separatist leader said he has formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to push for his client’s release.

According to Maxwell, he will be contesting for the House of Representatives under Ahiazu/Mbaise Federal Constituency.

He urged the Igbos to stop complaining of marginalization and come out in their large numbers to get involved in politics as this will help in addressing most of the pressing issues in the region.

However, this latest message from Nnamdi Kanu to his supporters, appears to be a complete departure from their rigid disposition of not getting entangled in Nigeria politics.

Meanwhile, before now, there has been massive calls by the leaders of thought from the Southeast region, urging the leadership of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) to join politics, but this calls overtime was rejected.

Analysts are now wondering what prompted the sudden change of mind and the call by Nnamdi Kanu for his supporters to join politics.
