Togo Scraps Visa Requirements for All Africans

Togo has announced visa-free entry for citizens of all African countries, allowing travellers to stay in the country for up to 30 days without a visa.

The policy was unveiled by Togo’s Ministry of Security in a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday.

Authorities said the decision is aimed at strengthening regional integration, boosting mobility across Africa, and positioning the country as a hub for cooperation and economic opportunities.

Under the new arrangement, African travellers with valid national passports can enter Togo without obtaining a visa in advance for short visits lasting no more than 30 days.

The government described the move as a “historic step” toward deeper African unity, adding that the reform reflects its commitment to openness and continental collaboration.

Despite the visa waiver, visitors will still need to complete an online travel declaration at least 24 hours before arrival to obtain a travel slip required for entry.

The development follows a similar policy introduced by Rwanda, which has also opened its borders to African nationals without visa restrictions.

In response to Rwanda’s earlier decision, Nigeria recently began implementing a 30-day visa exemption policy for Rwandan citizens travelling into the country.

The latest move by Togo is expected to further encourage tourism, business travel, and cross-border trade within Africa as more countries adopt easier travel policies for fellow African nationals.
